Red Wings: Michal Postava, confirmed. Detroit coach Todd McLellan announced after Monday's morning skate that Michal Postava will start against the Oilers at Rogers Place (9:30 p.m. ET), MLive's Ansar Khan reports. It is the first NHL start for the 24-year-old from the Czech Republic, who signed with Detroit as an undrafted free agent in June 2025.
Oilers: Tristan Jarry, confirmed. Edmonton's official X account posted that Jarry starts against Detroit. Matt Tomkins backs him up while Devon Levi is on injured reserve.
How Postava got here
Detroit recalled Postava from AHL Grand Rapids under emergency conditions on Oct. 22 after Daniil Tarasov was hurt in practice. He made his NHL debut that night at Vancouver, replacing John Gibson in the third period after Gibson had an eye issue, and stopped seven of the eight shots he faced, according to MLive.
His minor-league numbers explain why Detroit is willing to try him. Per the team's recall release, he was 4-0-0 with a 1.25 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage for Grand Rapids this season. Last season he went 17-6-0 with a 1.71 GAA and a .937 save percentage and shared the AHL's Hap Holmes Memorial Award for the fewest goals allowed.
The matchup
It is a hard first assignment. MLive notes Edmonton leads the NHL at 4.36 goals per game, and NHL.com's projected lineups list the Oilers at 8-2-1 and the Red Wings at 4-4-3. Monday is the final stop on Detroit's four-game western trip. Gibson is the backup, and NHL.com lists Tarasov among the injured.
For Edmonton, Jarry is coming off Saturday's 7-2 home loss to Toronto, and our earlier Oilers goalie story covers the Levi injury. Every Monday starter is on the Oct. 26 board. Nothing here is betting advice.
