The Edmonton Oilers host the Detroit Red Wings at 9:30 p.m. ET Monday with a thinner goaltending group than they started the week with.
Oilers: unconfirmed. On Oct. 23 the Oilers placed Devon Levi on injured reserve and recalled Matt Tomkins from AHL Bakersfield under emergency conditions. The team says Levi was hurt in Thursday's win over Carolina and will miss time. Before the injury he was 6-1-0 with a 3.11 goals-against average and an .887 save percentage in seven starts.
That leaves Tristan Jarry as Edmonton's most experienced healthy goalie. He started Saturday's 7-2 home loss to Toronto, per the NHL.com box score. Tomkins, 32, was 1-2-0 with a .909 save percentage in three AHL starts this season. According to the club, all six of his NHL appearances came with Tampa Bay in 2023-24.
The Oilers' game preview does not name Monday's starter. It quotes coach Mike Babcock saying of Saturday's loss, "Tonight wasn't good enough, period."
Red Wings: unconfirmed. John Gibson started Saturday's 4-1 loss at Calgary. Edmonton's preview puts him at 3-4-0 with an .867 save percentage and a 3.44 goals-against average. Monday is the last game of Detroit's four-game western road trip. The Red Wings have not announced a starter.
Starters will be marked confirmed on the Oct. 26 board once the teams announce them. Nothing here is betting advice.
