Capitals: Logan Thompson, confirmed. Thompson returned from injured reserve and started Wednesday's 5-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Capital One Arena. He made 23 saves, NHL.com's recap and the league's status report both say.

The status report says Thompson (lower body) was the first goalie off the ice after the morning skate, after practicing fully the previous two days. He was activated off injured reserve on Tuesday, and Mitch Gibson was loaned to Hershey of the American Hockey League. Thompson had missed Saturday's 4-3 overtime win against Buffalo.

Flyers: Joseph Woll, confirmed. Woll started the second night of a back-to-back and made 25 saves in the loss, the same recap says. Philadelphia had lost 4-3 in overtime to Columbus on Tuesday. Dan Vladar started that game, as our report from that morning said.

How the game went

Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou each scored twice, and Dylan Strome had three assists, NHL.com reports. Aliaksei Protas also scored. The Capitals are 7-4-0 and went 4-1-0 on the homestand. Tuch scored into an empty net for the 5-2 final, so Woll's 25 saves do not include that last goal.

"And when we did have a little bit of a blunder, 'LT' was there for us," Strome said, describing it as the team's most complete 60 minutes.

Sean Couturier and Matvei Michkov scored for the Flyers, who are 3-8-4 and have lost three straight.

Thursday in Nashville

Washington plays at Nashville on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET at Bridgestone Arena, the NHL schedule feed shows. That is the second night of a back-to-back. The Oct. 29 status report covers Thompson's Wednesday return and does not name a starter for Nashville. Until the Capitals or a reporter does, Thursday stays unconfirmed on the Oct. 29 board. Wednesday's starters are on the Oct. 28 board. Nothing here is betting advice.
