Jakub Dobes Will Start for the Canadiens Against Dallas on Thursday

Canadiens: Jakub Dobes, confirmed. Coach Martin St. Louis confirmed after Wednesday's practice that Dobes will start Thursday against the Dallas Stars, the Canadiens' practice note says. Both Dobes and Jacob Fowler took part in the session at StarCenter in Farmers Branch. Puck drop is 8 p.m. ET at American Airlines Center. It is the last game of Montreal's four-game road trip. The NHL schedule feed lists the same game, Montreal at Dallas, at 8 p.m. ET.

The club's note names the starter. It does not give a reason. We are not adding one.

Tuesday was Fowler's

Jacob Fowler started Tuesday at St. Louis and made an NHL-career-high 46 saves in a 2-0 win, NHL.com's recap says. It was his second shutout of the season and his sixth straight win. He has allowed one goal or fewer in each of his past three starts. Zachary Bolduc and Florian Xhekaj scored. Xhekaj's was his first NHL goal. Jordan Binnington made 18 saves for the Blues.

Fowler also practiced Wednesday. Thursday's assignment is Dobes.

Stars: unconfirmed

Dallas has no goalie named for Thursday in the notes above. Casey DeSmith started Tuesday against New Jersey and made 22 saves in a 5-1 loss, the NHL.com recap of that game says. That was Tuesday. It is not a Thursday assignment.

The Oct. 29 status report discusses Dallas injuries and says forward Sam Steel is likely to return Thursday. It does not name a goalie. The Stars' side of the Oct. 29 board stays unconfirmed until the team or a reporter names one. Our Thursday slate preview was written before this confirmation. Nothing here is betting advice.
