NHL Starting Goalies Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026: Capitals on a Back-to-Back, Red Wings' Postava Question

Thursday, Oct. 29 has 11 games on the NHL schedule. No team has reported a starter yet; morning-skate news arrives on game day. Most of these teams play Tuesday first, so the best guide for now is who starts for them tonight, listed on the Oct. 27 board. Statuses for Thursday will move to expected or confirmed on the Oct. 29 board as they are reported.
Three teams to watch
Capitals (at Nashville, 8 p.m. ET): back-to-back. Washington hosts Philadelphia on Wednesday and plays in Nashville on Thursday. NHL.com's status report lists Logan Thompson (lower body) as probable to return Wednesday. Charlie Lindgren started Saturday's win against Buffalo. Who plays which night has not been announced.
Red Wings (vs Chicago, 7:30 p.m. ET): Postava or Gibson? Michal Postava won his first NHL start Monday at Edmonton, with John Gibson as backup, NHL.com reports. Detroit has not said who starts its first game back home. Background: our Postava story.
Lightning and Penguins: rested. Neither team plays Tuesday or Wednesday. Dennis Hildeby started Tampa Bay's last game, Saturday at Utah (box score), and Arturs Silovs started Pittsburgh's 3-2 overtime win over Nashville the same night (box score).
The full slate (ET)
- 7 p.m.: Winnipeg Jets at Tampa Bay Lightning
- 7 p.m.: Utah Mammoth at Pittsburgh Penguins
- 7 p.m.: Columbus Blue Jackets at Carolina Hurricanes
- 7:30 p.m.: Chicago Blackhawks at Detroit Red Wings
- 8 p.m.: Boston Bruins at St. Louis Blues
- 8 p.m.: Washington Capitals at Nashville Predators
- 8 p.m.: Montreal Canadiens at Dallas Stars
- 8 p.m.: New York Islanders at Minnesota Wild
- 10 p.m.: Buffalo Sabres at Anaheim Ducks
- 10 p.m.: Ottawa Senators at Los Angeles Kings
- 10 p.m.: Vancouver Canucks at San Jose Sharks
Every other team on this list plays Tuesday, so their Thursday picture depends on how tonight goes. For example, Columbus (Cam Talbot) and Carolina (Pyotr Kochetkov) both play Tuesday and meet Thursday. See the Wednesday board for the four games in between. Nothing here is betting advice.
