Islanders: Ilya Sorokin, expected. New York opens a three-game Western road trip at the Dallas Stars on Sunday (6 p.m. ET), and the Islanders' game preview says that, while unconfirmed, Sorokin is expected to start. That changes the picture from NHL.com's projected lineup, published Saturday, which had listed Semyon Varlamov first.
The team preview says Sorokin has made seven starts this season with a 1.71 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage, and has won three straight, most recently a 17-save game in a 3-2 win over Anaheim on Tuesday. The Islanders take a five-game point streak into the night.
Stars: Jake Oettinger, expected. The same preview expects Oettinger in net for Dallas, and NHL.com's projection lists him first with Casey DeSmith as backup. According to the Islanders' preview, Oettinger's .939 save percentage ranks second in the NHL among goalies with at least five games, and he has three shutouts and three straight wins, the latest a 17-save game against Winnipeg on Thursday.
Both starts are expected rather than confirmed. We will mark them confirmed on the NHL starting goalies board once the starters take the ice. Nothing here is betting advice.
