Pyotr Kochetkov has started nine games for the Carolina Hurricanes this season and won all nine. He made 24 saves in Thursday's 3-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Lenovo Center, NHL.com's recap says.
That set the franchise record for the longest winning streak to open a season. Frederik Andersen held the old mark, eight wins to begin 2021-22, per the same recap.
The numbers
Kochetkov is 9-0-0 with a 1.66 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage and one shutout, according to his NHL.com player page. He started twice this week: Tuesday's 2-1 win over Boston, where he made 15 saves on 16 shots, and Thursday's win over Columbus. Both are on our boards for Oct. 27 and Oct. 29.
The shutout came on Oct. 24 at St. Louis, when he stopped all 24 shots, the NHL.com game log shows.
How Thursday went
Jordan Martinook, Logan Stankoven and Mark Jankowski scored, and Carolina built a 3-0 lead 16 seconds into the third period. Denton Mateychuk and Kent Johnson, on the power play, cut it to one, but Kochetkov held on. Jet Greaves made 24 saves for Columbus, per the box score.
"Overall, you're happy to get the win. And our goalie played great, and you move on," Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour said, per NHL.com.
The Hurricanes are 11-2-2 and have won 11 of their past 13.
Next start
Carolina's next game is Sunday, Nov. 1, at home against the Winnipeg Jets at 1 p.m. ET. Clocks in the U.S. go back an hour that morning. No starter is named for that game yet. We will add it to the board once Carolina or a reporter names one. Nothing here is betting advice.
