Flames: Dustin Wolf, confirmed. Wolf starts Friday when Calgary hosts the Seattle Kraken at 8 p.m. ET, Flames radio's Pat Steinberg posted on game day. It is his first start since Oct. 15 at Vegas.
Kraken: not announced. Seattle had not named a starter at our last check. Philipp Grubauer started Wednesday's 5-4 home win against Toronto, the NHL.com box score shows. Check the Oct. 30 board for updates.
Why Wolf is back in
Devin Cooley had started every game of Calgary's four-game winning streak. On Wednesday at Edmonton he stopped eight of nine shots before he was hurt in a collision in the crease with 12 seconds left in the first period, NHL.com's recap says. The team called it a lower-body injury. Wolf played the last 40 minutes and made 20 saves on 23 shots in a 4-0 loss.
"You don't want to see anyone get hurt, let alone a guy that's been playing some of his best hockey," Wolf said after that game, per the same recap.
On Friday the Flames recalled goalie Arsenii Sergeev and forward William Stromgren from the Calgary Wranglers of the American Hockey League. That gives Calgary a second healthy goalie to back up Wolf. The team has not given a timeline for Cooley.
Where Wolf's season stands
Wolf is 1-4-0 with a 4.81 goals-against average and an .839 save percentage in six appearances, according to his NHL.com player page. His two starts against Seattle this season, on Oct. 1 and Oct. 4, were both losses. Cooley is 4-3-0 with a .914 save percentage.
The back-to-back question
Calgary plays again Saturday at Colorado at 10 p.m. ET, the second night of a back-to-back. No starter is named for that game yet, so it is unconfirmed on the Oct. 31 board. Our back-to-back explainer covers how these second-night calls usually come out. Nothing here is betting advice.
